大学のプログラムでオーストラリアに留学し、留学期間中の4ヵ月間、大学の周辺で活動する「ワネルースカウト」のリーダーとして活動に参加した。オーストラリアのスカウティング技能についての指導はもちろん、日本の文化や日本語そのものについても、彼らが中学校で学んでいたこともあり、日々、紹介することができた。
また、日本連盟の制服についても紹介することができ、オーストラリアの制服と同じように、自分たちがWOSMのマークで繋がっているということを伝えることができた。現地のスカウトにも日本という海外のスカウトに興味を持ってもらえたことは成果といえる。
最後には団のパッチやチーフをつけて活動することも叶った。
As part of my college’s foreign exchange program, I spent four months in Australia. During that tenure, I became involved in the local Scouting movement there called Wanneroo Scouting as an adult volunteer. Throughout my time there I was able to educate them on what life in Japan was like and what Japanese Scouting was like. One thing of importance was the significance that both uniforms (Japan and Australia) had the world crest somewhere on their uniform. I was also able to explain and shed light on what Japanese Scouting is and that it actually exists. Towards the end, I was able to wear the Australian uniform and be part of their troop completely.
